P601 LEV Inspection & Certification

Thorough Examination and Testing of LEV Systems (TExT)

LEV assessment and certification is a mandatory requirement under UK Legislation and must be undertaken by any employer who has operational Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Systems which are provided to ensure the protection of personnel from dust, fume or chemical emissions within the workplace.

Ventilation systems are classed as LEV if they are provided to control, capture or contain airborne contaminants such as dust, fumes or vapours. LEV assessments are required once every 14 months (some LEV systems more frequently) and certification must be retained for a period of five years to gain compliance of the applying regulations.

The following are a few examples of the many kinds of LEV systems which require annual certification:

  • Welding Hoods
  • Fume Cupboards
  • Grinding Hoods
  • Vehicle Exhaust
  • Downdraft Tables
  • Canopies
  • Spray Booths
  • Joiners Workshop Machinery
  • Dust Booths
  • Hi Vacuum Systems
Our engineers are qualified to British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) P601 standard

This accreditation covers:

  • Initial appraisal and test of LEV systems
  • Thorough examination and test of LEV systems

Our engineers also comply with your company’s Quality Control and Health and Safety Procedures at all times and we will provide Risk Assessments and Method Statements on request.

Thorough Examination and Testing

The LEV assessment is designed to determine the efficiency and suitability of an LEV system, ensuring operator protection against exposure. This involves the use of airflow/pressure instruments and visual aids such as smoke testing/dust lamp checks to record measurements.

Expert Analysis and Practical Recommendations

Recorded airflow and static pressure measurements are analysed by our site engineers to determine whether an LEV system is deemed effective.  On completion of LEV testing, the system is labelled to indicate it has been tested; this is a requirement of HSG258.

We prepare and issue a thorough report containing all recorded data together with recommendations on any actions that may be required to ensure that an LEV system meets the required standard.

Professional Client-Focused Approach

Once an LEV certificate is issued by EVS the details are registered on our database; a reminder will then be sent to the customer one month before the next examination is due in order for your next LEV test to be arranged. We have over 30 years’ experience and can therefore provide the most professional and very best advice possible.
